Important information if you are abroad and requiring medical advice.
Medical Advice While Patients Are Overseas
We understand that health concerns can arise while you are travelling or staying temporarily abroad. However, there are limitations on the advice that GPs in the UK can provide when patients are outside the country.
When you are overseas, we are unable to carry out an appropriate clinical assessment, arrange necessary examinations or investigations, or ensure safe follow-up care. In addition, UK medical indemnity cover applies only to patients who are physically within the United Kingdom. Providing medical advice to patients in a foreign country may therefore fall outside our professional indemnity arrangements and medicolegal jurisdiction.
For these reasons, we are unable to provide clinical advice, prescribe medication (even outside England) or manage new or ongoing medical conditions while you are abroad. We strongly recommend that you seek assessment and treatment from a local qualified local healthcare professional .
Once you return to the UK, we will be happy to review and continue your care as appropriate.
Thank you for your understanding.
